Make the handoff part of the plan.

A transfer should be a deliberate path in your agent, not an afterthought. Define the moments when a person should take over: a direct request, a question outside the agent’s scope, or an issue that requires a decision from your team.

Collect what matters first.

Before transferring, ask for the minimum useful context. That might be the caller’s name, account reference, and a short description of the issue. Keep the questions short, and avoid making callers repeat information they have already given.

Tell the caller what happens next.

Explain that you are connecting them to the team. Set a destination in the workflow and decide what the agent should do if the transfer cannot complete. A useful fallback is more important than a polished line that leads nowhere.

Test the actual phone path.

A browser conversation can help you refine the script. The carrier handoff needs a real phone test. Check the receiving number, caller audio, destination availability, and the outcome recorded after the transfer.
